W11: Measuring the Cost - "Attitude on Money" by Stephen W. Gibson

 


Based on the "Attitude On Money" article from the W11 Study: Measuring the Cost activity, respond to the following questions:

-What is your attitude toward money?
-How can your view of money affect the way you live?
-What rules are recommended for prospering?

What is your attitude toward money? I think that money is essential in life but it is so important how we utilize it. It can be consuming and can be wasted on so many unnecessary things. Money can be used for good and can be used in essential and necessary ways.

How can your view of money affect the way you live? In the reading, we were assigned to read, it says, "The first thing we need to understand about money is that is not evil. Money is neither good nor bad. The Love of money or the obsession with accumulating money from others unrighteously, no matter what the method, may be evil, but money in and of itself is neither good nor evil." I think this is so important to know and remember, money is actually a beneficial thing but it can be used in "unrighteous" matters. My view on money can help me understand its true purpose and why we have it. It can help me provide for my family, obtain medicine when needed, or I can save it for things like buying a house, a vehicle, or clothes to protect my body. I can use my view as a positive instead of a negative.

What rules are recommended for prospering? The reading says, "So if you want to prosper: 
Rule 1. Seek the Lord and have hope in him. Rule 2. Keep the commandments, that includes the temporal ones, tithing, and fast offerings. Rule 3. Think about money and plan how you can become self-reliant. Rule 4. Take advantage of chances for learning so you will not be ignorant of these matters. Education, as President Hinckley has taught us, is the Key to Opportunity.  Rule 5. Learn the laws upon which the blessings of wealth are predicated. Rule 6. Do not send away the naked, the hungry, the thirsty or the sick, or those who are held captive." When we strive to follow these rules, I truly believe that we can prosper. We can also use money the way it was intended to be used. 

It is important as entrepreneurs that we use money wisely and properly. We can find success if we strive to do so. When the Lord is in the details of our lives, he can help us find success in so many aspects of our lives.

  This week we read about reflecting on our journey and finding ways all opportunities in our lives have been a blessing. One of the readings we were assigned to read is by President Thomas S. Monson, "An Attitude of Gratitude," he describes how we have great and wonderful opportunities on the earth. We live in a time where goodness is hard to come by, but it is there; there are "teachers who teach, ministers who minister, marriages that make it, parents who sacrifice, and friends who help." These are small things that can help us recognize blessings in our lives. He continues, "We can lift ourselves, and others as well, when we refuse to remain in the realm of negative thought and cultivate within our hearts an attitude of gratitude. If ingratitude be numbered among the serious sins, then gratitude takes its place among the noblest of virtues." It's important to have an "attitude of gratitude," as it helps us recognize the good in our lives.

W03: Honesty & Business Ethics

  In week 3, we learned more about ways we can strive to be more honest and gain business ethics as we seek this path of entrepreneurship.  We had a few readings and videos to watch. The first video I watched was a Brigham Young University of Idaho devotional by Elder Lynn G. Robbins, entitled, Making a Living and a Life.  In this video, he taught how working and living are essential parts of God's plan. We work to help build His kingdom, we are asked to be honest in our daily dealings, and live a life full of good works; striving to make a positive impact within the world and our communities. He shared a chart of how we should be in our daily dealings. W10: Dream Big Dreams

  This week we studied the importance of dreaming big and the impact this has on ourselves and our business. There is a quote I really like from a video entitled, Think Big, with speaker Tyler Richards, who says,  “So, the point I’m trying to put across to you is do not over underestimate yourself. You can do it, you can accomplish the goals and dreams that you set and if you involve the Lord, you can do the impossible, you can do amazing things you can do great things. Just like it says in good to great, it's a whole lot more fun to do great things than to just be good.  Or to just be mediocre. And it's no harder to be great than to be good.   So, I challenge you, pursue your goals and dreams. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. And involve the Lord, you can do great things.” When we are striving to achieve our dreams it is so important to believe in ourselves. If we are not confident in ourselves or our thoughts fulfilling our dreams may not go as we plan.
