W14: Entrepreneurial Journal Final Blog

If you had one final lecture to share with a group of students on what you have learned from this course, what would you share?

If I were to give one final lecture about this course I would share that as an entrepreneur it is important to know who you are. It’s important to know what your values are because in business sometimes you can get caught up in things that can have a bad consequence if you get involved with things that can later destroy your life. One of my favorite things from this course that was mentioned was keeping a strong relationship with God and utilizing and strengthening your talents. We have all been provided with gifts on this earth, some we are really good at and some we are not. But when we focus on the things, we are good at or work on the things we are not so good at, we can turn those gifts into strengths for our future careers. By sticking true to who we are, we can avoid getting caught up in webs that can bring a business down and even give us a bad reputation. We can also make sure we are in line with God, if we keep him involved in our lives, we are sure to be led in the right direction and continually be guided when we need help. While traveling on the entrepreneurial path, it is also important to find mentors we can trust and will guide, uplift, and encourage us along our business path. These mentors can be people we already have associations with, people who are traveling on the same path or family. All these things can help one become a great and successful entrepreneur.

What would be your last bit of advice to someone wanting to begin the entrepreneur journey?

My last bit of advice for someone wanting to become an entrepreneur is don’t give up! The road may seem hard or unobtainable but in the end, it’ll be worth it. We talked a lot about failures and not letting those bring us down. Since we live in an imperfect world and because we are imperfect people, there are going to be times in any part of our lives where opposition may weigh down heavily on us, especially in business. As these roadblocks come, don’t give up. Hold on and keep pressing forward. Everything will work out. Keep an open mind because some things may not work out as you may have planned. Rely on your mentors, people you can trust, and those that uplift you. They will be the ones that may guide you and carry you through the hardships. Remember the lessons and try to see the blessings in the hard times, they will be the humbling blocks and help you see the light.

What words of advice, direction, or caution would you give him or her if you had only one chance to give your own last lecture?

I feel like my last response could be the answer to this question. But I think it is always important to be humble and be willing to learn. As a person and a human being, one of the things we do while on this earth is learn, grow, and gain knowledge. The way we obtain all those things is from experience. It is something we simply cannot avoid. I guess my word of advice, is don’t be afraid to try something new. Whether you are leveling up from a position that you have been in for years or if it is a position, you would have never even considered. BOTH come with experience, a lesson, growth, and knowledge. You never know where life is going to take you, be open and be willing to learn. My advice for being humble, you don’t know everything. And if you think you know everything, there is always something new to learn. This attribute also helps you build trust with those you’ll be associated with. It is a key aspect of being a leader and helping you develop on a personal level.

Here is an image of the book from this course I really enjoyed reading. I feel every person who is seeking the entrepreneur path should read it:
