W7: Moving Forward with a Driving Passion

Image
In this week’s reading, we were assigned to read, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. The habit that I found was most meaningful to me was habit 5, which is, Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood. This one had the most meaning because in any form of life we must be willing to understand others and listen to them, and then be able to respond to them in a way that will be clear and empathetic. It’s also not just about talking to people, it’s also about being able to share clear ideas that can reach people on emotional and visual levels. The 7 habits given by Stephen Covey can help me fill my life with passion and purpose both privately and publicly by helping me become a better person. Covey says, “The discovery that there is a gap between stimulus and response that we alone can fill in empowers us to take full charge of our own lives. No longer can we accept that we are a victim of circumstances, or that we have achieved anything simply because it

W6: So You Want To Be An Entrepreneur?

Image
This week we learned what it is really like to be an entrepreneur. These are a few of my takeaways from the readings and videos. I learned how important it is to make rules and create balances in your life. Whatever business we choose to do or create, it is important to place rules and balance what is important. While starting and creating may be worthwhile, getting caught up in everything that takes place in growing and creating a business can take over and minimize the things that are important in your life. I also learned it's important to really truly figure out WHAT you would like to do because you may be stuck with it for many years. It is important to focus on passions and talents when forming a business but once this business is created it extends further into a responsibility, especially if the business becomes far larger than you imagined. While passion may always be there, remember that you are also responsible for your business and where it goes or where you would lik

W5: Skill, Character, or Luck? - A Hero's Journey

Image
For week 5 we were asked to watch a BYU-Idaho speech entitled,  "A Hero's Journey."  In this speech, he talks about our own individual missions and how important and essential they can be. A few things that stood out to me was how you live your life, the importance of selecting great role models, and the need for boundaries. The speaker suggested that you are to "live every moment of your life like it matters because it does." We each have important missions to fulfill and the quicker we discover it the sooner we can work on ourselves and making the world a better place. He also suggested that when we face our struggles, we are to look at them as an adventure, and when there are setbacks to see them as lessons. Take the negative and make it into a positive. Don't get defeated by everything that comes across your path, hardships are for the benefit of our good. There is power in extraordinary people. On this journey, it is important to find great role models

W4: How Will You Measure Your Life?

Image
This week in Intro to Entrepreneurship, we focused a lot on our core values. Core values typically make up a person's beliefs, principles, and/or ideals that can help guide and motivate a person in their life. One of our readings for this week focused on how we will measure our lives. A few things it suggested are to create a strategy for your life. It suggests forming a clear focus and purpose in your life. It is important to understand where you want to go and how you would like to achieve your goals. It also suggests finding and discover resources that can help towards the things that matter most. These resources can provide guidance and counsel when times seem hard or we are in need of encouragement. The last thing I found helpful in this specific reading is to have humility. In humility, we have a full understanding of who we are and having a steady feel-good about who we are. These are just a few steps that are essential in becoming the person we want to be. Another reading t

W03: Honesty & Business Ethics

Image
In week 3, we learned more about ways we can strive to be more honest and gain business ethics as we seek this path of entrepreneurship.  We had a few readings and videos to watch. The first video I watched was a Brigham Young University of Idaho devotional by Elder Lynn G. Robbins, entitled, Making a Living and a Life.  In this video, he taught how working and living are essential parts of God's plan. We work to help build His kingdom, we are asked to be honest in our daily dealings, and live a life full of good works; striving to make a positive impact within the world and our communities. He shared a chart of how we should be in our daily dealings. The chart is as follows: Grade                         Primary Motivation                         Secondary Motivation     A                      Love of God & fellowmen                             Income     B                              Money                                          Love of fellowmen     C
